Bold statement? Yeah. A true one? I think so.
Metroid Prime 3: Corruption is one of my most anticipated games and you can imagine how giddy I am with it’s release only two weeks away. But, where is Nintendo’s pre-release advertising and hype? IGN recently wrote an article about the lack of prerelease hype for Metroid and that brought it to my attention. Nintendo is completely ignoring this huge game to promote games that are coming out way later on this year and some of these games don’t even have any huge followings. For example, the huge segment at Nintendo’s E3 Conference on Wii Fit. A game that is used to help the senior citizen in Wyoming play video games. However, at the same confernece Nintendo had a stage demo of Metroid and not even a playable one on the floor! I think the reason for this is that Metroid Prime 2, did not have many innovations compared to the first Prime and lacked the sales, too. If that is the reason Nintendo should rethink their marketing stragedy for the game because it lends a very unique expirence by literally letting you control Samus’s gun. I’m going to buy the game whether Nintendo markets it or not, but I feel bad for the people that don’t get a chance to learn about the game because of the lack of advertising.
PS – If you quickly want to the how bad this is head over to http://www.metroid.com and notice the absence of Metroid Prime 3: Corruption from the site.
Update: Nintendo seems to have changed their advertising policy on Metroid for the better. They have now updated the site and added a Wii Channel. Along with officially declaring this Metroid month. I guess I spoke to soon. Sorry guys

Try taking a Marketing 101 class. If Nintendo were to market the game now before its release, the game’s novelty will have been destroyed. Look at the Superbowl Halo 3 commercial. Horrible. Microsoft is milking every penny from that franchise. And I’m sure almost everyone in the hardcore gaming crowd at least knows of Prime 3’s existence. What would be the point of marketing to them? Nintendo will roll out some ads to the mainstream at the moment before release and quite a while after, I’m willing to bet.
And Metroid Prime 2 got bad reviews?! Are you a complete idiot?
@nightshadow:
I’m not sure I understand your Halo 3 example. The Superbowl ad was a huge source of hype for the game, I don’t think they should regret showing that at all. Of course Hardcore Gamers know about these games from the beginning, but those are not the people that they market to with those kind of ads. And if anyone knows about advertising past the Hardcore gamers it’s Nintendo, so it surprises me a great deal that we don’t see them trying harder to reach the casual market with this game.
Sure some novelty may be lost if the game is advertised now, but if they don’t market it all then no-one but Hardcore gamers will know about it, and they will miss a good part of the casual Wii market.
@Ali Shah:
Metroid Prime 2 got really good reviews from most outlets. I agree with what you are saying to an extent, but I’m sure Nintendo won’t let this title come out without it’s fair share of hype, but this isn’t really their moneymaker, so don’t expect the Wii Fit treatment. The series has always leaned itself slightly more in the hardcore direction, so you will more likely see ads for Corruption in gaming magazines than at huge press events.
Metroid Prime 3 is not getting that much hype; in accordance to the prophecies…
nintendo has said already the importance of metroid prime 3 and the potential of FPS’s with the Wii-mote. if you think it will be sidelined for the likes of big brain academy you are very very stupid
I’m not surprised, the Metroid series has always been a backseat child of Nintendo.
I guess everyone is right. Nintendo’s marketing campaign is to completly ignore the games existence to the extent where even updating the Metroid site is too much advertising.
Everyone has started piggybacking off of IGN’s statements! Get your own freakin’ news!
NIntendo will start to market it right before it starts to come out.
Hmmm, you probably spoke too soon (same goes for IGN)… Check out the updated Metroid Web site, plus downloadable Metroid Prime 3 preview for the Wii. Patience is a virtue, my friends. Learn it.
My WiiConnect24 just announced to me that there is a Metroid Prime 3 channel available on the Wii for download. Apparently, Nintendo cares after all! The channel is only for hype apparently so there you go. Put all your trust in Nintendo…they are always right. Oh and PS If you look at Metroid’s site it is updated to include Corruption. There goes all your arguments.
so like as i said earlier if u thought nintendo were gonna ignore the importance of metroid prime 3 u r very very stupid. nintendo have put alot of time and money into this game. if they didnt care we would have got some shoddy version at launch.
least now that trailers on wii ware ur not lookin too clover
Give Nintendo some time people. With the Wiiware launch on friday at least they are trying out new ground. What we need to remember is that they are an old stubborn company who are slowly bringing themselves into the mainstream. I am confident that there will be a sufficient market stratergy for Corruption.
All we can do is wait and see instead of wasting all of this evidence getting worked up about something that may, or may not happen…
Have faith for now.
And if they fail to bring the hype then they deserve a slap quite frankly, this game deserves exposure.
