Hideo Kojima: “Blu-ray Disc Not Big Enough for MGS4″

nakedraiden_bdc.png

Try to wrap your head around that for a second. Read that headline just a few more times to make sure that you aren’t confusing it with one of the ads on the side of the page of something. Got it? Good, because Kojima-san is not playing around when it comes to the file size of MGS4. In an interview with a Japanese mag, the Metal Gear Solid creator claimed that a 50GB Blu-ray is not sufficient for his upcoming title. Apparently, the team had to compress certain parts of the game to get it to fit on the Sony format, and foreign voice tracks were cut completely.

Kojima : I am not satisfied with the quality yet, however…there isn’t enough space.
Interviewer: Not enough space on Blu-ray?
Kojima: Yes. [laughter] Not enough space.

Someone get this man a Quad-Layer BD!

    “HOW BIG IS THIS GAME!”

You mean how many hi-def cut scenes are they trying to cram onto the disc. Or how badly bloated is the code.

The game will look nowhere near as good as Crysis on the PC and that fits on a single regular DVD. What the heck is going on that MGS4 needs more than 50gb?

SONY should have provided them with the 100GB blu-ray disc that SAMSUNG worked on. WHy the hell didn’t they give it to them ?.

Damn! I love this game even after the first few trailers!!!! Seriously, I heard Hitachi came up with a 100GB (4 x 25GB layers) Blu-Ray Disc that can be played on current BD players, all that is needed is a firmware update….why doesn’t he use that? He may have to pay more for their technology or something, but it should be nothing compared to the expensive prodution cost they’re already at.

But it’s still gonna be excellent ’cause it’s news for me that he’s using a 50GB (although Ryan hinted at it in E4All2007). And, MGS1 IS the best game on the PSone….MGS3 IS one of the best on the PS2 (MGS2 falls a bit short of the series) so the world already knew what to expect from the game-design genius, Mr. Hideo Kojima.

MGS4 is already the best on the PS3 even if it has compression etc.
Wonder if he’s got enough time to utilise the 100GB? Kojima-san rules!!!!
