Bold statement? Yeah. A true one? I think so.
Metroid Prime 3: Corruption is one of my most anticipated games and you can imagine how giddy I am with it’s release only two weeks away. But, where is Nintendo’s pre-release advertising and hype? IGN recently wrote an article about the lack of prerelease hype for Metroid and that brought it to my attention. Nintendo is completely ignoring this huge game to promote games that are coming out way later on this year and some of these games don’t even have any huge followings. For example, the huge segment at Nintendo’s E3 Conference on Wii Fit. A game that is used to help the senior citizen in Wyoming play video games. However, at the same confernece Nintendo had a stage demo of Metroid and not even a playable one on the floor! I think the reason for this is that Metroid Prime 2, did not have many innovations compared to the first Prime and lacked the sales, too. If that is the reason Nintendo should rethink their marketing stragedy for the game because it lends a very unique expirence by literally letting you control Samus’s gun. I’m going to buy the game whether Nintendo markets it or not, but I feel bad for the people that don’t get a chance to learn about the game because of the lack of advertising.
PS – If you quickly want to the how bad this is head over to http://www.metroid.com and notice the absence of Metroid Prime 3: Corruption from the site.
Update: Nintendo seems to have changed their advertising policy on Metroid for the better. They have now updated the site and added a Wii Channel. Along with officially declaring this Metroid month. I guess I spoke to soon. Sorry guys
