Yesterday, Major Nelson released a video of creating an avatar for the New Xbox Experience(XNE). For those who don’t know the XNE is the total revamp of the Xbox 360 Dashboard that is expected to be released with the fall update. It really is very different and adds a big new feature, avatars. These are very similar to Mii’s for the Wii and avatars for Playstation Home. It seems as if Microsoft wanted to get in the game. Just watch the video above to see the entirely new interface for yourself.

The Coolest PS3 Ever, MGS Gunmetal Gray Version, Comes To America

When the Gunmetal Gray PS3 was announced in Japan, I was immediately disappointed because it wasn’t going to be released here. I am usually not a fan of gimmicky, branded consoles, see Simpsons Xbox 360, but this PS3 just looks amazing. At first, I thought the PS3 would actually be made of some sort of metal, but that opinion quickly changed on some thought about the major cooling problems. But, still worth it. The branding isn’t even that bad, in fact it looks really cool. See image above. For more information on the Gunmetal Gray Version check out the MGS post on the Playstation Blog.

PS – This console is different from the regular PS3 in the MGS Bundle, this is solely the branded console.

Hideo Kojima: “Blu-ray Disc Not Big Enough for MGS4″

nakedraiden_bdc.png

Try to wrap your head around that for a second. Read that headline just a few more times to make sure that you aren’t confusing it with one of the ads on the side of the page of something. Got it? Good, because Kojima-san is not playing around when it comes to the file size of MGS4. In an interview with a Japanese mag, the Metal Gear Solid creator claimed that a 50GB Blu-ray is not sufficient for his upcoming title. Apparently, the team had to compress certain parts of the game to get it to fit on the Sony format, and foreign voice tracks were cut completely.

Kojima : I am not satisfied with the quality yet, however…there isn’t enough space.
Interviewer: Not enough space on Blu-ray?
Kojima: Yes. [laughter] Not enough space.

Someone get this man a Quad-Layer BD!

MGS4 Gets a Solid Release Date

mgs4_raiden_10.jpg

We have been hearing a lot of ballpark style release windows for Metal Gear Solid 4 up until now, but today all of that changes. Prepare to usher on a new age of MGS4 release date knowledge, as Konami has announced that their newest Metal Gear Solid title will ship on June 12th of this year. Oh, and don’t forget that anyone who preorders the game will receive an ‘exclusive’ Metal Gear Online beta code. Sweet!

Better warm up those Sixaxis (six-axe-ies), because the summer will be here sooner than you think.

Konami Squashes 360 MGS4 Rumor…Again

mgs4-snake-fig1.jpgSome people may have heard about the latest version of the rumor that the Xbox 360 will be getting Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots. This rumor has been coming up on and off all through out 2007, so it seems fitting to start 2008 with it. XboxFamily first started the rumor this time around after announcing that they had spoken to a Konami PR rep who said that the game was indeed coming to the X360. TheGameReviews along with almost everyone in the gaming community didn’t believe them, but TheGameReviews took the time to confirm the falsity of the rumor. After speaking with their PR person, the almost-confirmed was confirmed. Here is what they had to say:

“For the record, Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots is a PlayStation 3 exclusive and there are no plans to develop an Xbox 360 version of the game.”

There you have it…what you probably already knew.

Common Sense Prevails: MGS4 and MGS Online Will Be In One Game

 mgs4.jpg

Ever since MGS Online was annouced, it was unclear why Konami was making the game into two parts. Well, not that unclear it was obviously to make a larger profit. But, nonetheless we acted confused. We can rejoice now that the Official Playstation Magazine is confirming that MGS 4 and MGS Online will be included in one game. Some more details about the 16 player online were also revealed, for example the ability to customize your character with certain traits, similar to perks in Call of Duty 4.  The game will also feature a selection of 100 weapons and a very unique type of multiplayer-sharing these perks feature. Not too many details so far, but enough to hold you over for at least a week.

HMV Adresses MGS4 Xbox 360 Screw Up

solidsnake.jpg

After a listing for an Xbox 360 version of Metal Gear Solid 4 became available for pre-order on UK retailler HMV’s website, the gaming world went crazy with speculation. Knowing that they had created a monster, HMV made a statement today to Gameindusty.biz stating that the listing was put up in error. They stated,

In his enthusiasm, one of our online games team indicated that hmv.co.uk would start taking pre-orders for MGS4 on Xbox 360, when, in fact, he simply meant to ask customers if they wished to receive an alert in the event of this title one day coming out on this platform

So it was all a great big misunderstanding. But where did that September 26th release date come from? We may never know… >_<

HMV Taking Preorders for Xbox 360 Version of MGS 4

mgs4fff.jpg

UK mega retailer HMV has quite an interesting item up for pre order on their website. Not only are they offering a pre order for the PS3 version of MGS 4, but they are giving buyers the chance to pay for the 360 version in advance as well. Wait a sec, the 360 version? The unconfirmed super rumor version? The version that has sparked more debate in the gaming world than any other game for as long as I can remember? Yes that’s right, that version.

Now either way you look at it, HMV screwed up. Either someone released classified info too soon, or somehow they listed an item that doesn’t exist at all. If the former is true, many Xbox 360 gamers will be delighted and many Konami execs will be fuming. If the latter ends up being the real story, then I’m sure the executives are freaking out and the 360 players will soon be the ones who are angry. Especially the ones who just jumped all over the opportunity to pre order the game.

HMV has the game slated for a September 26th 2008 UK release, but we will have to wait and see whether this is for real or will all fall through beneath our feet. Hit the link to see a screenshot of the listing, or check it out for yourself here.
