DigitalLife ‘07 – Crysis Hands On

(The video is flushed out a bit due to the lighting situation, sorry)

Today was a big day at DigitalLife, and one of the most exciting things that I got my hands on was Crysis. Having missed a chance earlier, I was extremely eager to play this highly anticipated PC game after hearing word that the Demo was delayed an pushed back to late October.

The build I played was still fairly early, but the physics and graphics that make this game tick were really on display during my demo of the title. The first thing I noticed when I started off was how sharp the visuals looked. The environment was extremely realistic, and truly did look just like a real tropical island. Everything from the palm trees and their leaves to the sand on the beaches, to the flowing water looked better than that of any other title I have seen to date. There is not much room for criticism when it comes to Crysis’ graphics department, but what about the physics? Well there is no need to worry, as the physics in the game are just as impressive as the visuals. Virtually everything in the game is destructible, and each small piece of the stuff that you blow up can be used as its own object or weapon. A fun way to experience this comcept is by shooting a palm tree until it breaks in two pieces, and then picking up the fallen part and throwing it at an enemy. Or perhaps you would rather blow the wall off of a building and hit people with its siding. Almost anything and everything you can think of is doable in this game.

As far as the other gameplay elements are concerned, Crysis looks solid. During combat, while your weapons are inportant, you wont stand a chance unless you use your suit abilities to your advantage as well. With various abilities to choose from, such as super speed and strength, all the way to stealth and armor upgrades, there is a way out of any jam you might find yourself in. Couple these with the various weapons and weapon variations found in the game, and you have a shooter which is alot more than just a pretty face.

All in all, Crysis is not only one of the best looking games I have ever seen, but it might just turn out to be a fantastic shooter as well.

Orange Box Goes Gold

orangebox_360.jpg

Valve finishes and sets up for the launch of Orange Box. Orange Box is a set of games featuring many valve favorites like, Half-Life 2, Half-Life 2: Episode One, Half-Life 2: Episode Two, Team Fortress 2 and Portal. The game is set to lanch for both the PC, Xbox 360, and PS3 (delayed version). The game looks really fun especially because of it gives Xbox 360 and PS3 owners a taste of that Half-Life goodness in High-Definition.

DigitalLife ‘07 – Voodoo’s D-Box Motion Gaming Chair Hands-On

This may be one of the most fun items that we have tested out here at Digital Life. The D-Box Motion Gaming Chair is a racing chair that has force feedback that shakes and moves the chair as the in-game car goes on different surfaces. The movement felt very real, but the only thing wrong with the playable demo was that braking didn’t work as well as I would have like it to, and, because of this, I couldn’t feel the seat moving forward when braking. Other than that, it was a great product that I would like to have much more time with.

DigitalLife ‘07 – Mobile or No Mobile

dscn0319.JPG

You do see some cooky things at DigitalLife sometimes, but spotting a Howie Mandel “lookalike” giving away Laptops in a mock game show can really catch you off guard. Above, you can see this stange occourance in all of its knock-off glory. Its not just a game show however, as the contest serves as a way for Toshiba to educate potential buyers about their new products, and pump all kinds of advertising at them without them even realizing it. Oh and no, I didn’t win anything… yet.

Hands on with GH:3 at Digital Life

Guitar Hero 3 may be one of the most anticipated games for this year. Well, here at Digital Life 07, we have had a chance to play the game, and so far it is not meeting my expectations. It has the same exact gameplay as the last two games, so there are no new surprises, and it really seems like more of an expansion than a whole new game. I am not going to review the game since I have not had enough time with the game, but expect more of the same-old.

The DigitalLife ‘07 Show Floor

092807_17213.jpg

Elias and I have landed at the Jacob Javits Convention Center here in NY, and the view from the press office can give you a pretty good idea of what is going on downstairs on the show floor. We will get to look out on all of the exhibits and attendees from a pretty cool vantage point up here while blogging for the next three days, so if you are at the con and can figure out where we are sitting, wave us down and we will buy you a soda or something. You know, something like that.

Sorry about the bad image quality, but the all of the light in the press office reflecting off of the window is what made that masking effect. We’ll get you some pics from downstairs later.

Halo 3 Has Officialy Hit!

halo3comm1.jpg

That’s right kids, its just about Midnight here on the east coast and everyone else has jetted away from the Rotpod offices to local game stores to pick up a copy of Halo 3 ASAP, leaving me to tend to the place while they have their fun elsewhere. As I sit here waiting for my Legendary Edition to come straight to the doorstep while sipping freshly brewed coffee near the comfort of the Rotpod fireplace, I can’t help but think about what a good time everyone else is having. Well okay, maybe I am just a bit sour about the whole being stuck here thing, but there are more important matters at hand, so I will spare you my complaints and move straight onto the good stuff.

The release of a huge game such as Halo 3 means a few things will be happening here at Rotpod, including a detailed review that will be posted in the coming days, tourneys, massive amounts of updates, and perhaps giveaways as well. Just try to peel yourself away from the game for a few minutes between multiplayer matches or something so that you don’t forget about your old Rotpod pals okay?

Oh and, HAPPY HALO 3 DAY!

Hey NBC, If You’re Gonna Make a Big Deal About It, Update Your Website

nbc2.png

NBC vs iTunes. iTunes vs. NBC. It was obviously a huge dispute that lead to hundreds of episodes being taken off iTunes, but it seems that NBC didn’t remember to update their website to exclude links like “DOWNLOAD FROM iTUNES RIGHT NOW”. Here is the bigger version.

Updated Rock Band Set List

rocksmudge_2.jpg

I was one of those skeptics that thought Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock would inevitably be better than Rock Band. Then, I saw this song list (tentative) that basically shows some of my favorite songs and some of the best songs too. Rock Band is definetly going to be on my console this Novemeber with 4 instruments and a great song list. Check out the rest of the song list after the break.

Blue Oyster Cult “Don’t Fear the Reaper” (Master)
The Who “Won’t Get Fooled Again” (Master)
David Bowie “Suffragette City” (Master)
Black Sabbath “Paranoid” (Cover)
The Ramones “Blitzkrieg Pop” (Master)
Mountain “Mississippi Queen” (Cover)
Bon Jovi “Wanted Dead or Alive” (Master)
Rush “Tom Sawyer” (Cover)
Nirvana “In Bloom” (Master)

GT5 Prologue Dated in Japan

gt5_f4302a.jpg

Gran Turismo 5 is probably the most anticipated racing simulation on any console, and Polyphonic Studios and Sony just keep on building up the hype by releasing all these minial demos and games in between. GT5: Prologue is the second ‘demo’ for Gran Turismo 5, second to GT HD which no one knows what it is a prequal too. But, now GT5: Prologue has actually been dated for Japan as December 13th, 2007. Now, don’t be disappointed Sony fanboys because the original date was October, they just need more time to make the game better.

Microsoft Not Banning Early Halo 3 Players

halo3noban.jpg

Got your copy of Halo 3 before everyone else? Do all of your friends hate your guts for it? Whatever, who the hell needs friends when you have Halo 3?

Anyways, you may have heard that Mister Sof-T was planning on laying down the ban hammer on anyone who signed into XBL while playing a copy of the game before its official release. Well aparently, that’s not going to happen to anyone after all. This notice was on the official site today:

“We can confirm that Microsoft is not taking any action (such as banning Xbox Live accounts) against gamers who are playing Halo 3 before the official street date. Any rumours or speculation to the contrary are false”

That’s a relief! So if you are one of the lucky few who grabbed the title early, go flaunt it!

Want Halo 3 Early?!!

Halo 3

Well I know many of you are anticipating the arrival of Halo 3, I know I am! Many people have gone out and searched in local stores if anyone has broken the street date.. Well, popular rumor has it that through www.newegg.com (a well-known online e-tailer!) will be shipping copies early. Many have already said it’s shipped for them, If you order the game today with overnight shipping you can probably get the game tommorow! The shipping costs an extra $18 but the price of the game on newegg seems to be $53.99 for the regular version, so that puts it at a total of $72.27 with overnight shipping before tax! This seems like an awesome deal for all the die-hard Halo fans out there! Even I myself might buy it today!

–UPDATE 2:45 PM EST– Seems ALL of them including Legendary and Limited Edition just sold out, wow that was fast!

–UPDATE 6:30 PM EST– Now it seems the regular edition and limited edition versions are back?! If you place an order now it will probably still get to you by Friday with overnight shipping! My order has also just gotten to step 3 of 5, which means it will probably get shipped later today or early tomorrow! I suggest you all buy the game before it “goes out of stock” again..

–Final Update– After many calls later, it seems newegg will be shipping the game tomorrow but they will not deliver it until the 25th which is a huge let down.. So time to cancel your orders if you planned on getting it this week.. But newegg is refunding shipping so you can still get Halo 3 on tuesday with free shipping meaning the game will cost only 53.99, this is for only the people who ordered yesterday around 12pm-3pm PST..

The Force Unleashed Confirmed for Wii (aka a Lightsaber Game, YAY!)

force1.jpg

Yes, it’s true. CVG reported today that Lucas Arts has confirmed that their new Star Wars game The Force Unleashed will be available on the Wii. Then, they also confirmed the use of the Wii-mote as a lightsaber, while the nunchuck will be used for force powers in the game. The wii version will also feature a dual mode which will inevitably be fun featuring head to head lightsabre battles against friends. No word on online yet, but get excited this games release next Spring.
