There we go. I love it when more videos and info comes out from this game, because I for one am extremely excited about Eternal Sonata. Before the demo became available via the Xbox Live Marketplace, I had not really been looking foreword to this game, as it seemed like it would end up being just another eastern style RPG. After getting a taste of the title however, I found out that the unique combat system is really what makes this game tick, and you get to see it all of its glory in the embedded trailer. If you want to see it in HD, it is available via the XBLM and at GameTrailers.com.

When Tekken 5 launched without online play, it went without saying that fighting game fans were hungry for more. Thankfully, it was announced that the downloadable game would get some DLC that would provide an online component soon after its release via the P Network. Well my friends, the time for you to strut your stuff is now, as the online play add-on has finally become available and is waiting for you to download!
You wont be grabbing this extra content without paying a pretty penny or two (or one thousand actually) as the download will cost you $10. Yeah that’s dollars, not ‘console name goes here’ currency. Oh and if you haven’t experienced the Tekken 5 single player game at all yet, you can get the whole package (including the online add-on) via digital download for $30. Nice!
It’s no secret that the PS3 has been lacking in really good games during it’s life compared to the Wii and the Xbox 360. And everyone knows that many good ones aren’t really going to be coming out in the foreseeable future. That’s why whenever a good game is rumored to be coming out everyone that has a PS3 starts to get really excited and in some radical cases, jump for joy. Lair was one of those games to some PS3 owners. However, that hardly turned out to be the case.
PSM reviewed it first and gave it a 5, which is a hard hit because many Playstation owners look to the magazine for good, solid reviews of games. The next major source to give it a bad score is Gamespot, which gave it a 4.5 citing a horrible control scheme as the reason. The control scheme, also seemed to be the probelem that PSM had with the game. I guess that takes Lair off the games to buy list for Playstation 3 owners.
However don’t fret, Warhawk seems to be getting good reviews with the exception of the PSM reviews. Many people are very happy with the game and you can pick it up for only $40 off the PSN.

When Stranglehold was first annouced, I was very skeptical because I thought it was just going to be another lame action game with a Chow Yun-Fat twist. However, that turned out to be exactly what I wanted after the demo was released. And then, I was very disappointed when it was delayed for all the consoles. As a solution to all my probelems Stranglehold has officially gone gold for the Xbox 360 as Midway annouced today. The game is set to come out for the X360 on Septemeber 5th. That piece of good news was only true for the Xbox 360 version because the PC and the PS3 versions were delayed. The PC version was pushed back till September 18th and the PS3 version has been pushed back till September 25th. This does technically make Stranglehold a timed-exclusive for the 360…
The very anticipated Halo 3 controllers and headset, and the 360 Messenger Kit, will all be coming out next week. The controllers, which will each sell for sixty dollars, feature either a Master Chief themed paint job or a Brute themed paint job. The Halo 3 wireless headset, which features a green and gold paint job, will also sell for sixty dollars.

Yes, it’s the big 30th anniversary of the podcast, and boy do we have a show lined up for you! Don’t miss this week’s episode as we discuss BioShock’s release, the Call of Duty 4 Beta, Warhawk, Lair, Manhunt 2, and much much more. It should be on the feed soon, but you can jump over to talkshoe to listen to it there as well.

Quake Wars Goes Gold
Enemy Territories: Quake Wars, the highly anticipated PC first person shooter from id Software has gone gold just in time for it’s release early in October of this year. While us gamers over here in North America will have to wait until Oct. 2nd to get our hands on this title, id has confirmed that the European and Australian versions will ship on Sep. 28th, the same week that Halo 3 hits.
While the game is good and solid for release on the PC, there is no info on the previously announced Xbox 360 or PS3 release dates, but I would bet the house that we will see them not so long from now (2007). Notice the keyword would there. I am not actually willing to bet you my home, so don’t flood my inbox with ‘gimmie ur houZ d00d’ emails if I am wrong about this…

If release dates like “November 2007″ and “Q2 2008″ make you anxious and even slightly angry, you will be happy to know that Mass Effect, one of the most anticipated games of 2007, has just gotten a release date. Mass Effect is now set to hit Xbox 360’s on November 20th. Mass Effect is probably most known for it’s great visuals, voice-acting, and even just because it is being created by BioWare. Check out our other post for more Mass Effect details!

Four new GT5 Prologue Screens have just been released by IGN, and they look very good. The cars are almost photorealistic, and even the landscape itself looks very good. The driver view is very detailed, and may be the best driver view I have ever seen. Hit the link to see the rest of the screens, plus a few older ones as well.

I think it’s time to give the 60GB Playstation 3 a fond farewell. SCEE has officially annouced that they have no more PS3’s left in their warehouses. This was confirmed by David Karraker, “”We no longer have any inventory in SCEA warehouses. All inventory has been purchased and shipped to retailers,”. Many people believed when Sony annouced the price drop and then simply discontinued the model, they were trying to cut corners and just having a “clearance” sale. Now, their have been rumors and analyst speculations that their will be a price-drop on the 80GB version of the PS3 from $599 to $499. This has not been confirmed by Sony or by anyone really, but everyone is still expecting it. Let’s hope this time they don’t discontinue the model.
A few weeks ago, when Mario Galaxy’s release date was announced for Europe, a box art picture was released, which, in my opinion was not very good. It was kind of awkward with Mario on his back and legs in the air, and it was not really scaled well. Mario seemed very small, and there was a lot of open space.
Now, the final box art has been released, at least for the US, and it looks much better. It is very colorful, and it looks like the game will appeal to Nintendo’s expected audience. The box shows Mario flying with planets and a black hole for good measure. In traditional Mario fashion, it does look cute. In my opinion, this is how box art for a game in this genre should be.

Were you one of the many hopeful Call of Duty fans who signed up to be entered into the Beta raffle yesterday? If so, you will be happy to know that you have automatically been chosen to enter the public multiplayer beta just for registering! Shortly after the beta signup ended, FourZeroTwo let the public know that Infinity Ward would be giving tokens to everyone who took part in the process as an apology for the original ‘first come first serve’ mess that just didn’t work.
See, everything worked out for the best after all!

The people have voted and we have a winner! After opening up an election for gamers to vote on 4 different COD: 4 box art selections, one has finally been chosen and announced to be the design we will see on the box when this game hits store shelves in November. I must say, this game box is lookin’ good!

Ever since the 4 different types of controllers for SSBB was annouced, I have been a little iffy on whether or not the Wii’s control scheme would lend itself to the fast action combat style everyone loves in Super Smash. That is why I was always pretty decided that I would use the Gamecube controller for the game as opposed to the Wii-mote and Nunchuk. However, these new details on the control scheme may sway me the other way because the controls do seem pretty easy and don’t actually implement the motion-sensing, as of right now.
The controls shown are much the same as Melee controls where you would hold down the A button and a direction on the control stick for special moves. I imagine the same thing on the Gamecube controller. This is simple enough and may even been simpler using the Wii-mote and nunchuk, as compared to the Gamecube controller. For the side-ways Wii-mote controls you will have to hold down the 1+2 buttons and then use a control pad to do a special move and for the Classic controller you will hold down A and use the left control stick for the special moves. I think the only difficult control set is the side-ways Wii-mote side because holding down two buttons can get a little hectic. But, I’m sure HAL has thought this through and will try to make it enjoyable for everyone using every kind of control scheme.

Eventhough this is the new generation, PS2’s have still be selling like hot cakes. Last month’s NPD figures show that the PS2 was the 3rd most popular console of the month. This is probably the reason why Sony is still pumping money into the PS2. Now, a newly bundled PS2 is coming out!

IGN posted these pictures that come with a white PS2, two microphones, and Singstar Pop for $149.99. This will also probably sell because this game is very appealing to the less hardcore gaming crowd and many games are still being release for the PS2 like Manhunt 2. Check out some more pictures after the jump.

With less than a month left till Halo 3’s launch, Microsoft has confirmed today that the game has gone gold. This basically means that the game is complete and it has been sent away for manufacturing. This comes after people saw Frankie playing “Halo 3″ on Xbox Live, not Halo 3 Epsilon, not Halo 3 Multiplayer Beta, but Halo 3. So, now that the most anticipated game ever is finished, we will have to hope that our 360’s don’t break until after September 25th, 2007.
Everyone at Rotpod is a big fan of BioWare, but that really goes without saying when a company has games like Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic and Jade Empire under its belt. There latest RPG, Mass Effect, looks to be no different, delivering solid visuals and great RPG elements. The latest footage can be seen in the stage demo at PAX 2007 below:
Now let’s move on to the meat of the story. Some of you may have heard of the gaming blog Destructoid. They have a more radical opinion on the stage demo. Orcist, the writer of the article, admits that the game is amazing visually, but says that the facial animations and the voice acting is sub-bar and took away from the flow of the game. These are both aspects of the video above that I loved and I thought were done beautifully. Orcist goes on to compare facial animations to a ventrilquist. This is when X-Play writer Matt Keil decided to speak out on the NeoGaf forums.
Do not believe this preview. I had the first hour of the game played in front of me, and none of Destructoid’s criticisms are valid. This is either truly awful taste or a pathetic attempt to get more hits. Possibly both.
Mass Effect has the most incredible facial animation of any game ever (at the time I saw it, anyway…Heavenly Sword tops it in cutscenes, IMO), and the voice acting is perfectly fine. The beginning of the game is all space navy “Sir, we have visual” shit, anyway. It’s obviously not going to be Gone With The Wind.
There are plenty of things to worry about with Mass Effect without making up shit about the presentation. This preview is simply not describing the game I saw.
I agree with Matt and also think that the Destructoid article was just an attempt to get more hits. Mass Effect is a beautiful game and is very high on my list of games to look forward this season. Check out another Mass Effect video after the jump.

I know that Sony already has it’s Sony Ericsson phones, but this is Playstation Phone is no doubt a direct result of the success of the iPhone. This phone was confirmed in an interview with Peter Ahnegard when he said that a gaming Sony phone would be coming by Christmas. At this point, he failed to mention that it might not be this Christmas.
Sony does already have versions of it’s phone to match every other product they have from Cybershot phones to Bravia phones. And if the picture above from Gizmodo is really a early FCC picture, the phone will probably be like a SideKick and not really a ground breaking phone. Dont fret, however, you can hold out until the gPhone.
