Ready to make that step up to HD movie viewing but cant decide which format to choose? Here’s a little somthing to make that decision, well, harder. The powers behind both digital video standards are giving you a chance to nab five free HD films if you lean towards their format and lay your money down for a player. This kind of deal is not exactly new to HD DVD, but this is the first time that we have seen this kind of value coming with a BD player. Exciting!
The Blu-ray deal will be going live this weekend, so if you are planning on supporting BD, I suggest you wait just a little longer. The preliminary details of this offer came in the form of a news post on Bluray.com, but no word on what free movies consumers can choose from, or on how they will get to them. The HD DVD offer on the other hand allows you to choose from 15 titles, ranging from sucky (The Dukes of Hazzard) to downright kick-ass (Apollo 13). The movies in between aren’t bad either, with options such as Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow and Seabisuit available as well. Just mail them this form and you are ready to go!
The catch? Not much of one really. All you have to do for the Blu-ray movies is buy any player (including the PS3), and for HD DVD you just need to pick up a Toshiba one. What more reason could you need to jump up to an HD movie format?

Wow! It’s been a long time since we have seen a new trailer for the new Grand Theft Auto game, but with a trailer like this, I know that they have been working very hard on the game. The trailer shows a lot more interactivity with the environment than the past few GTAs, which will give it more of a realistic feel. The physics look to be very realistic, too, as you see a police car flipping over as it hits an obstacle in front of you, and wind seems to have a roll in making the game seem as realistic as possible. Graphics are definitely not a let down, as this may be one of the nicest looking games I have ever seen, considering the stage of development that it is in and the size of the game. Check it out:
Guitar Hero is a really fun game, I must admit. And now for all those PS2 Guitar Hero players, get ready to Rock the 80’s. The last 10 tracks have been confirmed for the game adding such greats as Anthrax, Judas Priest, Winger, Dead Kennedys and Limozeen! I love 80’s music as much as the next guy, kinda… But, in any circumstance another 30 songs to play in Guitar Hero can’t hurt. Check it out the entire list after the break.
“Balls to the Wall” (as made famous by Accept)
“Caught in a Mosh” (as made famous by Anthrax)
“Los Angeles” (as made famous by X)
“Police Truck” (as made famous by Dead Kennedys)
“Electric Eye” (by Judas Priest)
“Because, it’s Midnite” (by Limozeen)
“We Got the Beat” (as made famous by The Go Go’s)
“(I Think I’m) Turning Japanese” (as made famous by Vapors)
This isn’t much news, but I am really excited for this game’s release especially since the new details. But, the cover art for the game has been revealed with Samus Aran standing back to back against her evil counterpart, hint the corruption. This game looks promising and may get me back into my Wii!
French PSM revealed details and confirmed rumors about another SIXAXIS PS3 controller coming featuring rumble, the good old feature from two generations ago. Nonetheless the magazine reveals a new technology that Sony will be using called TouchSense, which allows developers to vibrate the controller at different places other than just the handles. PSM outlined all the features like, a small price increase if any, no change in design of the controller, and function’s seemlessly with the gyroscopic functions of the SIXAXIS. Now the PS3 is up to par with the other consoles of this generation, but with Blu-ray becoming more of a success, do you think that Sony will start focusing on the console instead of using it as a vehicle to push Blu-ray?
Everyone was pretty disappointed when rumors that John Statham would be playing Agent 47 in the upcoming Hitman movie were scrapped. The new Agent 47, Timothy Olyphant, does not look that bad in this leaked trailer however. The trailer was originally supposed to be revealed alongside Live Free or Die Hard, but it was leaked and put on YouTube. Check the video out after the jump and get ready to see the movie October 12th, even if it does kinda seem like Rambo.
Well, I’m a huge Metroid fan and nonetheless was disappointed when the game was pushed back from it’s supposed March 2007 to after June. But, now the magazine Play says that the game will be coming out August 20th and revealed some more details. Nintendo says that it delayed the launch, so that it could have “Twilight Princess level of polish”. Nintendo says it appeals to Metroid fans and hardcore gamers and all the way to casual gamers because it’s controls. Play magazine goes as far as saying that Corruption is the “biggest revolution in FPS gaming since Halo”. Leaving us with high hopes, maybe even too high.
Well, we all knew this was going to happen, but don’t you want to know that it officially happened? A Take-Two executive came out today and announced that Manhunt 2 is no longer scheduled for it’s July 10th release on the PS2 and Wii, and that the company needs time to review its options. Just in case you missed the story, the ESRB has given this game an AO rating and as a result, Sony and Nintendo have barred the release of it on their consoles. The game has also been officially banned in Britain, Ireland, and Austrailia.
With Take-Two’s statement on the delay of the game, they also were quoted in saying:
“We believe in freedom of creative expression, as well as responsible marketing, both of which are essential to our business of making great entertainment,”
This could mean that they may not change the game, but that is highly unlikely because it would result in millions of lost dollars. But come on, isn’t this just a game where you can realistically kill people with the help of the Wii remote?

The title basically says it all. As I’m sure you have heard, the ESRB has taken it upon themselves to rate the highly anticipated Wii and PS2 releases of Manhunt 2 as, ‘Adults Only’. At first glance, a rating that simply advises only players over 18 buy the title may not seem like a big deal, but the ‘AO’ tag means much more in this industry than it is given credit for. First off, most retailers will refuse to sell ‘AO’ games, and in light of this Manhunt incident, Nintendo and Sony made public statements today reminding us that ‘AO’ titles are prohibited from being sold for their consoles. This means that if Rockstar doesn’t do some serious work on this game, there is no way in hell that anyone will be playing Manhunt’s sequel anytime soon. Or perhaps even anytime at all for that matter.
Remember how people found code in the Halo 3 Multiplayer Beta regarding the achievements, well now there seems to have been a final list revealed. Xbox360Achievements.org has posted a list of achievements for Halo 3 and we’ll highlight some of them.
Manhunt 2, which is being developed for the Nintendo Wii and Playstation 2, has gotten an official ESRB rating. People may not be ready for this, so the faint of heart should click the back-button on their browsers now. Alright……AO. For people that have been blown away by this fact and have forgotten what this means from the shock that they have just released, it means that it has been rated Adults Only. This means that it will not be sold in most local retail stores. This will have a huge affect on sales of the game, and R* will have a hard time making up sales for this game. Imo, R* is not going to let this go so easy and they are probably going to fight this decision.
Another bit of news that is sad for Rockstar is that the game has already been banned in the United Kingdom. This will also cut out on possible profits for R*. This is a decision that they will probably not be able to overturn, and both of these facts are a shame for the people at Take-Two and R*.
Hit us up on what you think of this ground-breaking decision!!!!
Recently, the Xbox 360 got exclusive GTA IV Episodic content, which really sticks it to Sony and the PS3. But, what we didn’t know is that Microsoft is said to have shelled out $50 million. Here Take-Two’s CFO reveals the price for each of the episodes and maybe even some prospective release dates
“The first 25 is for the first >episodic content package that’s supposed to go out and that is in March of ‘08. That’s why it moved into current because it’s in the next 12 months. The second 25 will be for the second episodic, the episode, and that will be later in fiscal ‘08.”
So, each episode cost 25 million and will be available next year, but we what we have left to wonder is if these episodes will be put a whole in our pockets.
All you iPhone nay-sayers may begin to change your minds with this latest press release from Apple. Today, Apple released a press release about changes that have been made to the iPhone. The big news from this press release is a change in battery life bringing talk time up to 8 hours, 6 hours for Internet use, 7 hours for video and 24 hours of audio playback. Another change is optical-glass covering for the screen as opposed to plastic for more clarity and more scratch resistance. Now, with a supposed battery life that rivals regular phones, nonetheless smart phones, and a shiny new screen, will the iPhone finally live up to all of it’s hype?
To kick off this week’s list of the stories that we forgot to post, I bring you a video that I cannot not belive i didn’t post. Being the hardcore PGR fanboy that I am, this great looking video of “The Snow in …… Nurburgring?” really gives me goosebumps.
Beautiful Katamari Details
GameSpot has reported that the upcoming Katamari game will indeed be downloadable from the Xbox Live Arcade Marketplace, but no word on price for now. The game will have the same core gameplay as it’s predecessors, but there will be new levels, a new soundtrack, and eight new characters to play as. Oh and of course, the game will naturally be playable in 720p HD.
We will still have to wait to find out whether or not this game will be an Xbox 360 exclusive. Look forward to that announcement at E3.
Well that’s all I can remember forgetting for this week. Hope you’re happy!
While browsing SocietyOfTheAncients.com, I found that they have pointed out the existence of a supposed ‘Alien Server’ containing the Ancient’s symbol, and linked to it. What’s interesting about this? As soon as you visit this site you will be greeted by a countdown to something that we can only assume is Halo related.
Oh and if you don’t know what I’m talking about, SOTA (Society of the Ancients) is believed to be part of a large scale Halo viral marketing campaign. So don’t get freaked out, okay?
Ouch. In a brutal turn of events, a Take Two PR Rep has confirmed that rumors of the downloadable GTA IV episodes being 360 exclusive are in fact true. The representative’s exact statement was, “The Grand Theft Auto IV episodic content is exclusive to Xbox 360″, so there really isn’t much room to argue there. This is bad news for potential PS3 GTA players, as some of this content is expected to include huge additions to the game including the missing equivilent of Staten Island and many other extras.
Now the real question is, how much are they going to milk out of 360 owners for each of these episodes? 800 ms points? 1600 ms points? Perhaps even an unrivaled 2400? How much is that anyway…
A press release from Capcom just landed in my inbox annoucning that the newest Lost planet map pack, ‘Map Pack 3′, is due to hit next Thursday (June 21st). I was not a big fan of this game’s multiplayer when it first came out, but Capcom is most definitely keeping their online players happy. These latest maps look extra cool, and will only cost you 400 Microsoft points. Check out the full press release after the break, and get ready to do battle in a VR world and a jungle-set temple.
After browsing numerous forums this morning, I have noticed many complaints involving the new GOW update achievements. Apparently, when you get one of the achievements, your notification will pop up yet the gamerscore will not be added to your overall total. Epic’s forums are abuzz, so I’m sure this will get fixed pronto. I’ll update as it happens.
Update #1: This is sortof fixed, The achievements that I got first haven’t updated my gamerscore, but any achievements that I’m getting now do. I assume from now on all the new achievements will work.
Update #2: All is well in the land of Xbox Live. This achievement glitch has been fixed and now everyone can go along playing happily!
